Donald “Don” Mims
I am a 1988 graduate of North Augusta High School. Immediately following graduation from North Augusta, my identical twin brother, Ronald “Ron” Mims and I attended Paine College in Augusta Georgia. After attending Paine College for one year, my twin brother and I transferred to Limestone College where we received our Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. I was a member of the men’s basketball team and graduated with athletic/academic honors.
After graduating college in 1993 from Limestone, I began working as a youth counselor and educator at the Glenn’s Spring Academy formally known as the Spartanburg Boy’s Home. I enrolled in the master degree program at Converse College upon which I received my M. A. Degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Learning Disabilities in 1996.
In the Fall, of 1998 I accepted a Parent Involvement Facilitator position at the District Instructional Support Center in Spartanburg School District #7. In August of 2000, I accepted and transitioned into a promotion position as a Lead Clinical Counselor at Houston Elementary School also in Spartanburg School District #7. I then re-enrolled at Converse College in 2005 for the purpose of pursuing my Administration & Supervision degree. I was fortunate to graduate with honors in July of 2006 with distinction.
I began my career in Administration at Dorman High School in 2008. I served there for one year and returned to Spartanburg School District #7 as an assistant principal at Spartanburg High school. After serving as an assistant principal at Spartanburg High for one school term, I was asked to serve as Principal of Park Hills Elementary School. I proudly served in the role of Principal at Park Hills from 2009-2011. After assisting with the transitioning of Park Hills into an Early Learning Center, I returned to Spartanburg High School. Currently, I am the Director of Student Services in Spartanburg School District 7.
I want you to know that I truly love building positive relationships with all people, but especially young people in hopes that I can help them to avoid some of the pitfalls that I encountered along the way. I am happily married to Mrs. Patrena Mims for the past 19 years. We are the proud parents of two beautiful, smart and talented daughters Deona age 19 and Lauren age 14.
Above all, I am a proud member of Foster’s Grove Baptist Church where Horace Wilson is my pastor. I want you to know that I truly love the Lord and am very humbled and eternally grateful of what the Lord is doing in my life as an educator and ordained youth minister.
